As the new church was being formed, we realized that we needed a name that reflected who we were and which communicated something significant to people who weren’t familiar with our church. We held a meeting (yes, our church does have meetings, sometimes) to determine what our name should be. “Crossroads” came out of that.
The name “Crossroads” is very present in folklore and tradition, and as a metaphor for a looming change in a person’s life. To come to a crossroads is to be faced with a choice. Sometimes, a crossroads can be an intimidating thing — especially when you’re already lost. Often, passing a crossroads means that we can never go back.
We believe that the crossroads is where people ultimately meet Jesus. It is the choice to either continue in life as we always have done — making our own decisions and going about our own way, or choose to follow Jesus and make Him our ultimate desire.
The picture that graces the top of our website shows that choice. But notice that the shadow of the Cross covers every part of the road — all the branches, too. There is only one path in life that leads to Jesus, but God’s love for the whole world influences everything in His creation. Many people have felt the shadow of the Cross, but still don’t know Jesus. That’s where the Church comes in. We get to show them the way. We have to.
